Before you begin…

Institutions are shaped as much by conflict as by cooperation.

If this project does anything, I hope it preserves complexity. The growth of Panthers was not accidental. Nor were the disputes simple. People of conviction often collide. Institutions evolve. Reputations shift. Time reframes events.

But effort, commitment and achievement endure.

And whatever else history debates, those years of innovation, ambition and collective endeavour cannot be taken away.

Introduction

This website presents the original manuscript of Panthers, Passion & Politics – The Roger Cowan Years in serialised form.

The material is published in structured segments (“Parts”), preserving the tone and intent of the original work.

Supplementary material — including contextual references and reflections — is housed separately to maintain narrative clarity.

If you are new to the project, this page explains how best to approach the material.

How the Material is Structured

The manuscript has been divided into sequential Parts drawn from the original chapters.

Each Part:

  • Preserves the original voice
  • Includes minimal framing
  • Links to related structural pages where appropriate

For a broader understanding of the architecture of the site, see the Reader’s Guide.

Foreword

Before the narrative begins, you may wish to read:

Part 0 — Foreword by Roger Cowan

This foreword provides context in Roger’s own voice.
It is not part of the narrative sequence but offers perspective on the period covered.

Begin the Narrative

Part 1 — The Rise of Panthers: Success, Excitement & Conflict

The narrative begins here. Subsequent Parts should be read in sequence.
